Checking my Site for Online Teaching

We did a site check today to make sure it is all ok.
I put the link to my class site into a Chrome incognito window and did a walk through of where the students will have to go while they are at home.
It was a good exercise as I found two things that were not viewable - one was a document that was not public and the other was an embedded workspace where i had taken the wrong url when I embedded it.

It has all been sorted now.
Please excuse the slightly grumpy face. I was on my couch, concentrating.

  1. Hi Karen,
You are awesome, as always. I loved watching this videos and seeing all the awesome things you have planned for your classes and how you have moved it to be so easily accessed during this lockdown. What do you foresee as your biggest challenge during this time?
Thanks heaps for all you do.
    Kind regards, Clarelle.

    1. Thanks Clarelle.
Challenges? ... I had "a go" at this in the four days of that last week of term. I found it hard to get over what i was meaning when I was not in the same space as the kids. I found myself going over how to say things, what I say when I explain things and what type of questions I need to ask. I have also been thinking about how I am going to approach the drawing side of the project work, especially for the seniors. We are working on online research stuff at the moment but if this goes on for longer than that work then we need to start drawing and design work. I have set up a web cam on a stand and tested it above a piece of paper while I draw. This worked on Google meet. I will probably do some recorded drawings for my kids to watch as well as doing drawings live online with them. The problem here is if they have paper and pencil at home. Any paper will do and i'm a fan of drawing with pens as they can't rub it out, but I can't assume anything in regards to materials to work with.
Thanks for your feedback on my blog. I hope you are well and keeping safe.

    2. Hi Karen, I was wondering if you might be utilising your drawing stand set up for Google Meet. Look forward to seeing that in action. Well done organising the learning content on your site too... really very easy to navigate and visuals very helpful. Checking your site Incognito is a good move, easy to forget that our view may look different for others outside the school Domain. Creating that top level folder for your site with permissions set to anyone with the link can view continues to be a must do when setting up a learning site.
Thanks again, as always a great read,
      Fiona

    3. Thanks Fiona. I didn't bring that drawing stand home with me which was a HUGE oversight on my part. I have put together a replacement at home which uses a webcam on a small gorilla tripod so that the legs of the tripod can wrap around the top of a science retort stand. I have trialled this and it works ok.
